About Us
Sensei Monahan began teaching martial arts at the local YMCA in 1983. After a decade of teaching, he made the leap and opened his own dojo in 1993. Monahan Martial Arts was a major success and landed him the title of Winona’s longest running fulltime martial arts center. We believe at Monahan Martial Arts that everyone deserves to feel strong, safe, empowered, and valued; the mind, body, and spirit connection is invaluable and needs to be nourished. Ralph Monahan
Owner and Head Instructor
Ralph Monahan began his martial arts career at the age of 12 with karate lessons and fell in love. He climbed the ranks swiftly, earning black belts in Tae Kwon-Do in 1983 and Karate in 1997. He is currently completing his blue belt in Jiu Jitsu.
Matthew Monahan
Instructor
Matthew began practicing martial arts at the age of 4, and under his father earned his black belt in karate. Currently he teaches all private lessons in kickboxing.
Amy Torbenson
Instructor
Amy Torbenson came to Ralph in 2016 to learn self-defense and discovered a passion for the art. She is a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu.
